MMUST start their Kenya cup campaign with a match against Strathmore Leos on Saturday (kick-off 3.00pm); the hosts have snatched the victory in their last three matches against the MMUST with the last match pitting the two Strathmore winning in the last minute.

Collins Ngoko said there is a lot of hurt in the MMUST camp this week but that they want to put it right.

Collins Ngoko says that MMUST have had “a brutally honest” week ahead of their opening varsity derby clash. MMUST tackle Leos just a fortnight after losing against kabras sugar in the Victoria Cup in what was arguably their best result against the millers.

“I think this week has been a great example of the boys stepping up when we need to,” MMUST captain Ngoko said.

“Obviously, last Saturday didn’t go well and we were the first to put our hands up on that.

“The reaction this week has been brilliant. The boys have been brutally honest, and that is what we needed to be, getting down to the hard graft.

“Without hyping it up, I think it is a must-win game for both sides.”

“We have to be on the mettle every game.”

Ngoko, who wins his 50th cap on Saturday as captain, acknowledges that the defeat against kabras was a hard one to take but believes his team mates stepped up a great deal.

“We are creating and we are making space, but we are not being clinical enough,” Ngoko said.

“We are certainly looking at the way we’ve been playing. We have had opportunities, but we have not really taken them, but this Kenya cup season we are really aiming for a Kenya cup playoff spot and a top four finish and from there on we will see what awaits.

“It is going to be a big challenge (against Leos). They have played the had a great preseason the last few weekends and performed well, so they will come to the game, wanting a big performance.
